Here's the story of how God made the addition possible: |
| During Father/Daughter weekend in August of 1998, the speaker for the weekend pulled aside Dianne Liddy, Camp Administrator, and talked about expanding the Dining Hall. He looked at the sides of the building and described a way in which the floor space of the eating area could be almost doubled. He spoke of a fireplace at the end of the Dining Hall, reversing the direction people look while listening to announcements. This man said he would do the work during the last week of October. He said he would need $6000, 4-7 days, and 3-4 men who are good at building to complete the expansion (the fireplace, he said, would cost a few thousand extra). |

Here's the neat part.
Later during that weekend Dianne Liddy shared with three other men about the first man's dream to expand the Dining Hall. She told them that if there were 12 families who would give camp $500 apiece then camp would have the $6000 dollars. Each of the three men committed $500 and two of them wrote out a check right then!
An architect was at camp that weekend and said he'd draw up the plans and stamp them for the permit. There were two other men there who do construction for a living and they both want to be part of the team in October. Another man offered to bring his back hoe to camp to help out with the footings/piers. The man who built the stable wanted to help, too.
Schedule
October 22nd: The man arrived to set up the project.
October 23 - 24:
The floor was laid.
The old walls & windows were removed.
October 26:
Walls were erected.
Trusses were put in place.
Two "I" beams were wrestled into place (These two beams were
37 1/4 feet long and weighed 1200 pounds!).
October 27-29:
More trusses were put in place.
October 30:
The roof was nearly done except for shingling.
October 31-November 1:
The roof was completed and much of the shingling done.
By early November the Dining Hall had a nice roomy addition thanks to the work of God and his people!
